The Wainwright Welcoming and Inclusive Community Committee  identified a need for events where both newcomers and locals can meet and get to know each other.  We know that there are a lot of local activities for kids and families but not as many for just adults so Out of Office was created to seek out, welcome and integrate adults who are new to Wainwright or people wanting to meet new people into our community.

We are a small group of people who work together to plan fun networking events on a monthly basis. Our goal is to build a community where everyone feels welcome and included.

Please follow our Out of Office: Social Activities & Events Facebook page to find out about our upcoming activities and events.

Please find useful information in our Relocation and Investment Guide.

Through a grant from the Alberta Government, the Wainwright Welcoming and Inclusive Community Committee has purchased Languages Spoken Here signs meant for local businesses to display in their place of business to advertise the various languages spoken there.

This will assist newcomers to the community who speak other languages to communicate in their native tongues with businesses.  This will help make newcomers feel more welcome and at ease to ask for information on local goods and services including English as a Second Language training which is available through Adult Learning.  It will also help businesses attract new customers to their stores.

The signs have 4 removable slots to advertise languages spoken.  This project is a pilot and signs are available free-of-charge to businesses on a first-come first-serve basis.

Please contact Carley Herbert at the Town Office at 780-842-3381 or cherbert@wainwright.ca if you are interested in these signs.

Temporary Foreign Workers have become an important aspect of Alberta's economy, helping to alleviate labour shortages that slow down work and drive up costs. In recognition of language and cultural barriers, the Temporary Foreign Workers Association has launched a new confidential hotline to help workers get information about Alberta’s workplaces and worker obligations and rights.

The toll-free hotline 888-366-0194 will allow workers to get assistance on matters relating to compensation and immigration requirements.
