Wainwright is nestled in the gently rolling aspen parkland and prairies of the picturesque Battle River region. The area surrounding our community is known for many great adventures including hiking, camping, fishing and hunting. Among the many sights are the largest free standing memorial clock tower in Canada and the Battle River Trestle. The Wainwright District Museum has many holdings that depict life in this area from the early pioneer days through the developing oil field era and World War Two. Clear Lake and Arm Lake to the east provide swimming and water sports, fishing and camping during the summer months. Northeast of town, the Koroluk Landslide is witness to the awesome forces of nature acting on ancient sea beds. The Bud Cotton Paddock holds a buffalo herd still grazing commemorating the times of the historic National Buffalo Park.
