Connections & Deposits
The Town of Wainwright requires 48 hours notification in order to connect or terminate utility services.
Deposits
Property Owners
Utilities connected in the name of the Property Owner do not require a deposit unless the account becomes delinquent.
Rental Property
When utilities are being transferred from Tennant to Tennant or from Landlord to Tennant the utilities will remain in the Landlords name until the new Tennant has contacted the Town Office and paid the applicable Deposit in full prior to transfer. The landlord is required to sign an owner agreement before the utilities are transfered into a tennants name.
Budget Billing
The Town of Wainwright offers a utility budget payment plan. The budget payment plan is a means of spreading utility charges over a twelve-month period. Your estimated annual utility charges are divided into twelve equal payments with settlement of the account occurring on April 30th annually. Billing Charges (Effective May 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011)
Water Rates
Fixed Monthly Charge: $15.00
Variable Charge: $0.53/cubic meter
Cost of Water: Based on current CFB/ASU Charge of $0.65/cubic meter
Wastewater (Sewer) Rates
Residential: Flat rate of $16.00 per month per dwelling unit.
Commercial: $0.6918 per cubic meter of wastewater with a minimum of $16.00 per month.
For the purpose of calculating the sewage charge payable by a customer, the volume of wastewater contributed by a customer to the sewage works shall be deemed to be equal to 90% of the water delivered to the customer's premises, whether the water was received from the Town or from other sources.
Natural Gas Rates
The Town of Wainwright's gas distribution lines are owned and maintained by the Town. All profits stay within our community. The Town of Wainwright purchases natural gas from Gas Alberta.

Billing Concerns
The Town of Wainwright works hard to ensure the accuracy of the information provided on your utility bill, please help us by carefully reviewing your bill. Check to ensure that your customer information is correct including your name and service address.
If you find an error on your bill:
Contact the Utility Billing Department at (780) 842-3381, or by e-mail at utilities@wainwright.ca to report any inaccuracies on your bill.
If your bill seems too high or low:
If your water usage (consumption) seems too high or too low:
- Check to ensure that the meter reading located on the meter inside your house matches the meter reading on your remote device located on the exterior of your house and the reading on your bill. Report any differences to the Utility Billing Department.
- Watch for leaky faucets and running toilets. Faulty plumbing can adversely effect your water consumption.

Paying Your Bill
Choose the payment option that is right for you:
- Pay online or by phone through your bank.
- Pay in person at most banks and financial institutions.
- Sign-up for The Town of Wainwright's pre-authorized withdrawal program. Get application form
- Pay by Mail: Make your cheque payable to the Town of Wainwright and mail to: 1018 - 2 Avenue, Wainwright, AB T9W 1R1
- Pay at the Town Office between 8:30 am - 4:30 pm Monday to Friday (interac is available).
- Make your payment after hours through the mail drop-off box at the Town Office
Please allow sufficient time for payment to reach our office by the "Due Date". Payment will be applied to your account on the date of receipt at our office.
Overdue Payments
Avoid a late payment charge by paying your utility bill before the due date shown on the front of your bill. Please contact the Utility Billing Department at (780) 842-3381 to discuss your payment concerns.
