The Wainwright & District Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary membership-driven organization, operated by and for its membership. Currently, it is the only organized collective voice of professional and business people in the community. The purpose of the Chamber is to enhance the common good of the community, by promoting civic, commercial, and industrial progress. Services available through membership include: business referrals; networking opportunities; newsletters; inclusion into the community business & service directory; access to Chamber Bucks; Welcome Service Program; broadcast fax system; group insurance program; ATM merchant discount rates; fuel discounts; and Purolator discounts.

The Wainwright Economic Development Board is a co-operative partnership between the Town and Municipal District of Wainwright to promote, expand and enhance the economic development of the region. The Board acts as a facilitator and resource for strategies associated with business retention and expansion; business attraction and investment; community marketing and tourism; and community development.

The Wainwright Main Street Project is a five year joint partnership between the Alberta Historical Resources Foundation's Alberta Main Street Programme, and the Town of Wainwright. The program helps communities capitalize on historic resources by providing organization, design, marketing and economic development strategies to strengthen and renew the image of downtown as a vibrant social and commercial center.

Community Futures Development Corporations (CFDCs) take a grassroots approach to community and economic development with the primary focus on job creation in areas outside major urban centres.The mandate of the corporations is community and business development. Each CFDC delivers a variety of services ranging from local strategic economic planning, technical and advisory services to businesses, loans to small and medium-sized businesses, self-employment assistance programs, and services targeted to youth and entrepreneurs with disabilities.
